How Contact North | Contact Nord is Supporting Algoma University to Deliver Courses in Spring/Summer 2020

Algoma University has an agreement with Contact North|Contact Nord to help its faculty move their on-campus classes to faculty-led remote teaching in Spring/Summer 2020.

Contact North | Contact Nord is a 34-year-old not-for-profit corporation, funded by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, to support Ontario’s public colleges and public universities to provide a quality learning experience for their students taking their classes through faculty-led remote teaching using Contact North | Contact Nord’s remote teaching platform.

The agreement between Algoma University and Contact North | Contact Nord is separate from Algoma’s arrangement with Athabasca University.

 

Contact North | Contact Nord (CN | CN) Support to Algoma University Faculty

If you are a course lead responsible for moving a course to faculty-led remote teaching, as assigned by Algoma University, for Spring/Summer 2020, CN | CN is supporting you in the following four ways:

If you are teaching a course moving to faculty-led remote teaching for Spring/Summer 2020, as assigned by Algoma University, CN | CN is supporting you the following two ways:

 

Priority

The current priority is for classes starting June 1, 2020. The deadline for submitting a complete Course Design Template for courses starting June 1, 2020, is Friday, May 15, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

Contact North | Contact Nord will support Algoma University faculty to prepare for classes starting July 15, 2020. The deadline for submitting a complete Course Design Template for courses starting June 1, 2020, is Monday, June 1, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

Contact North | Contact Nord’s support to Algoma University is for the Spring/Summer 2020 semester only.

 

Moodle Server Availability

The new Moodle server will replace Algoma University’s current version of Moodle and  all existing content will be migrated to the new server.

We expect the new server to be available by Friday, May 8, 2020. The server will be migrated in time for the design team to start building the courses, which is due to start after the May 15th deadline to submit completed Course Design Templates.

Contact North | Contact Nord Moodle instructional designers will be creating all your content on Moodle for you on the new server or adding to what you already have. 

 

Resources

Contact North | Contact Nord created a resource in Moodle for Algoma University faculty to:

  1. Get information on Contact North | Contact Nord’s support to Algoma University, including links to register for webinars, recordings of past webinars and information on the expert coaches.
  1. Experiment with Moodle in a “playground” to better understand all of the features available to you, including a test course.

All Algoma University faculty assigned to Contact North | Contact Nord received an invitation to access Moodle with your user id and password. If you did not receive an invitation, please contact Melissa Meakin, Elearning Consultant, >[email protected] or 705-971-8546 (phone or text).
