Searchable Directory of Canadian Researchers in Online, Blended and Distance Education

 Hand on laptop to illustrate directory of online-learning researchers in Canada.

AVAILABLE NOW!
SEARCHABLE DIRECTORY OF 115+ CANADIAN RESEARCHERS IN ONLINE, BLENDED AND DISTANCE EDUCATION

A growing number of faculty, instructional designers and administrators are focusing their research on effective online teaching and applications of technologies. 115 and rising!

They often work as sole researchers or in small teams, frequently partnering with other institutions. In a few cases, research is done by the private sector.

These researchers share a common commitment to improve the online learning experience for students.

An evolving directory of Canada’s researchers in online, blended and distance education

Contact North | Contact Nord created this directory of online, blended and distance learning researchers from Canada’s post-secondary and national research institutions. It features the researcher’s interests and their top 3 cited publications in the past 5 years.

We want to expand this list and hope this process brings to light others engaged in research in this area.

What the researchers are saying

“Wow, the idea for a Canadian researchers directory is AMAZING - as nothing like this exists at the moment and I think it will really help to build and enrich the online, blended, and distance research network in Canada - kudos to Contact North for putting this together.”

-Dr. Norm Vaughan, Professor, Department of Education, Mount Royal University

“I am honoured to allow my name to be included in your directory; the work of Contact North is recognized world-wide in our field. Thanks and I'll be looking forward to the directory. Great resource!”

-Dr. Dirk Morrison, Associate Professor & Graduate Chair, Curriculum Studies, University of Saskatchewan

Three criteria for an active researcher to be listed in the directory include:

  • The researcher is attached to a college, university or other institution in Canada;
  • The researcher has published at least three research items, with a focus on some aspect of online learning, distance or blended learning, in the last five years in a refereed or peer-reviewed journal or book; and
  • Others have cited their work.

Most researchers list three or four areas of interest. The top three areas of interest are:

  • New or emerging technologies
  • Pedagogical or learning issues
  • Instructional design

Contact North I Contact Nord’s five objectives for publishing this directory:

  • Highlight current Canadian research and researchers in the field of online learning;
  • Provide a resource list of expertise in the field;
  • Help establish learning communities;
  • Promote cross-institutional collaboration with researchers with common interests; and
  • Work towards a common research agenda.

The searchable directory is an ongoing Contact North I Contact Nord project where we continuously add and update researchers as faculty change positions and institutions.

From time to time, we may delete a researcher if they have retired or no longer meet the criteria listed above.

If you know of a researcher who should be in this directory, please click here to share the details.
