Book Review

MOOCs have taken off big time since the beginning of the pandemic. Written off by some before COVID, over 220 million learners are now pursuing courses, micro-credentials or degrees created by close to one thousand universities. Now that both Udemy and Coursera are publicly traded companies, they can quickly access capital in a way that they could not before. This book is a critical reflection analysis of the current and potential impact of MOOCs on both the labour market and higher education in the US and Europe. The book is the result of several years of research which began in 2017. Developments in Europe look, at least to Goglio, different from those in the US and Canada, where change seems to take longer and connections to the labour market appear weaker. The book is well written and worth an exploration.
