A basic design feature of almost all online courses is the discussion board. Many students find this a chore and a bore that rarely adds value to their learning experience. This book seeks to change that, exploring options for design and learner-led discussions, including meaningful project-based learning through dialogue. It suggests a range of roles for the instructor, moving beyond coach and monitor into the role of mentor and guide for learning. The book is full of ideas and strategies that can be applied immediately in various teaching contexts, and practitioners can replicate examples in teaching practices or mould the ideas and strategies to fit particular teaching contexts.
